Cheer Camp

It was that time again - Cheer Camp! I am beginning my 3rd year as the cheer coach for the high school and each year we have done something a bit different for camp - this year turned out to be the best. The girls had a blast and learned great routines. We had a 3 day private camp at POWER in Modesto. The owner of POWER was my high school cheer coach and is absolutely amazing at what he does! It was soo great to see him in action again with my girls. It reminded me of why I love cheer so much - he was strict, made us THE BEST and still allowed room to have tons of fun! At night we stayed in a hotel and did lots of different bonding activities.
Friday - After a long day of cheering - we went to Boomers (which was right across the street) and the girls got to mini golf, drive the go-carts, rock climb, play laser tag and go on the bumper boats. It was so much fun for me to see the girls outside of "cheer" and watch them hang out as friends instead of only "teammates".
Saturday - The girls had another long day of cheer, perfecting stunts, jumps and learning routines. At the end of the day the girls had to dress in their "colors" for our night of bonding. It started out by having each set of partners walk 3-legged to dinner - about 3/4 of a mile away. I was so impressed at how well they did. There was even a group of 3 that managed to stay tied together the entire way! Way to go girls! After dinner they walked back sitching partners every so often in order to get to know all of the new girls on the squad. To end the night each group of partners had to make up a dance/cheer about themselves in order for everyone to get to know them a little better. They were all so creative! We also played "step over the line" and had a question/answer circle session. It was awesome to see the respect everyone had for one another. There was definitely some team bonding going on!
We had one team injury - a crazy black eye! She could not even open her eye, it was like the size of a golf ball on her eyelid. Stunting will do that to you! She was such a champ and after 4 days it is healing nicely!
All of the girls had to think of a name for their rooms that described what they wanted others to think of their cheer squad - and all together the rooms spelled out PANTHERS. P - assionate, A - thletic, N - otorious, T - alented, H - elpful, E - xuberant, R - adiant, S - pirted. They were also supposed to decorate their hotel rooms - Rooms Talented and Helpful had outstanding decorations!

I always try and give everyone a little something - so this year I made keychains with their names on one side and their PANTHERS words on the other. They turned out pretty cute! Thanks girls for working so hard as a team and improving in every aspect! This season will be awesome!
